Industry Experts Gather in Oxford for CN Glass X Vacuum Glazing UK CPD Event

On 9th September 2026 we hosted our first CPD Event in partnership with Vacuum Glazing UK in Oxford, bringing together architects, conservation specialists, joiners, and construction professionals from across the industry.

Our aim : To highlight LandVac Vacuum Glazing as a key contender of glazing technology and as a viable solution for projects where conventional glazing options may not be suitable.
Combining exceptional thermal efficiency with a slim profile, LandVac offers significant advantages for a wide range of residential, commercial, and heritage applications as well as a u-value of just 0.4, a decrease in acoustic reduction of 39db and a remarkable guaranteed lifespan of 25 years. That is some performance!

The event provided attendees with a valuable opportunity to learn more about the growing role of vacuum glazing technology within both modern and historic buildings through presentations, case studies, and expert discussions. Each attendee gained practical insight into how this pioneering technology is helping to address some of the key challenges facing the built environment today, including energy efficiency, sustainability, heritage preservation, and building performance.

The event opened with a presentation from Scott Cuthbert, Sales Director here at CN Glass, who provided an overview of the LandVac Vacuum Glazing system. Scott explored the technical specifications, thermal performance, installation considerations, and the benefits that vacuum glazing can offer when seeking to improve energy efficiency without compromising aesthetics.

Chris Procter of Procter-Rihl Architects then shared a series of fascinating case studies, showcasing how LandVac has been successfully incorporated into a range of properties across London.

Jeff Guest, Sales Manager at Gowercroft Joinery, discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with installing vacuum glazing in heritage and listed buildings and finally, Laura Millbourn of The Window Consultancy, offered invaluable guidance on planning for window replacement projects within heritage settings.

Following the presentations, attendees and speakers came together for a final discussion, creating an opportunity to talk through more of the topics covered throughout the afternoon in greater detail.

The discussion generated a wide range of questions and perspectives, reflecting the growing interest in vacuum glazing technology and its role in improving building performance while respecting architectural and heritage considerations.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended the event and contributed to the discussions throughout the afternoon.

The positive feedback received from delegates highlights the value of bringing industry professionals together to share expertise, experiences, and practical solutions. One attendee stated “I was very impressed by the event yesterday. I thought all the speakers were very knowledgeable and the product extremely interesting. The discussion about use in listed buildings and the reaction from HBOs was very useful.”

We hope all attendees found the session insightful and beneficial to their current and future projects.

If you missed out on this event, would like to be added to our mailing list or would like to continue the conversation with one of our specialists, please do contact us via our contact for or by emailing scott@cnglass.co.uk or wayne@cnglass.co.uk – we look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at one of our future events.

  • Cut Energy Costs & Improve Classroom Comfort with Modern Glazing

Installing modern double glazing in educational facilities cuts energy costs by significantly reducing thermal heat loss and stabilising indoor temperatures year-round. Advanced commercial window systems improve classroom acoustic insulation, suppressing external noise distractions to maintain an optimal learning environment. Upgrading outdated single glazed units lowers heating bills while meeting safety regulations and solar glare control standards. Specifying energy-efficient commercial glazing from CN Glass delivers long term operational energy savings and enhanced classroom comfort for schools.

  • From Factory to Facade: Streamlining Glazing Supply for Developers and Contractors

The double glazing U-value measures the thermal transmittance and heat loss rate through a window assembly. Modern commercial glazing typically achieves a whole-window U-value between 1.1 and 1.4 W/m²K to ensure compliance with Building Regulations Part L. Lower values indicate superior insulation and reduced heat transfer. Thermal performance depends on the combination of low-emissivity coatings, inert gas fillings like Argon, and warm-edge spacer bars. Achieving these targets is essential for meeting ESG goals and reducing the operational carbon footprint of a building. High-performance glazing prevents heat escape and lowers the energy demand for internal climate control.

  • The Role of Warm Edge Spacers in Achieving Low U-Values for Commercial Projects

Warm edge spacers are critical for achieving low whole window $U_w$ values in commercial glazing by eliminating the thermal bridging associated with traditional aluminium bars. Manufactured from low-conductivity materials like engineering plastics or silicone foam, these spacers significantly reduce linear heat loss around the glass perimeter. This technical improvement helps developers meet Approved Document L requirements, minimises condensation risks, and improves occupant comfort near large glazed facades. By absorbing structural movement and reducing stress on edge seals, high performance warm edge systems prevent premature unit failure, securing long-term durability for commercial building facades.
